A Specialist Ear Care Service Built Around Your Residents

Ear wax build-up is one of the most common and easily overlooked conditions among elderly care home residents. Blocked ears can lead to withdrawal, confusion, and a significant reduction in quality of life — and in residents with dementia, untreated hearing loss is frequently mistaken for cognitive decline.
Hear Now! provides a dedicated mobile ear wax removal and hearing screening service specifically designed for residential and nursing care homes across the West Midlands. We visit your home, carry out professional microsuction wax removal and hearing assessments using the Tympa Health platform, and work sensitively and patiently with all residents — including those living with dementia, anxiety, or other vulnerabilities.
Our founder Helen has extensive personal and professional experience working with elderly, insecure, and dementia patients, and brings a level of compassion and patience to every visit that goes well beyond a standard clinical appointment.

Why Ear Health Matters in a Care Setting

Untreated ear wax is more than a discomfort — in elderly and vulnerable residents it can have serious consequences

🧠 Misdiagnosed Cognitive Decline

In residents with dementia, blocked ears can cause or worsen confusion, agitation, and withdrawal — symptoms that are often incorrectly attributed to the dementia itself rather than treatable hearing loss.

👂 Social Isolation

Residents who can’t hear clearly disengage from conversations, activities, and mealtimes. Restoring hearing through simple wax removal can dramatically improve social wellbeing and mood.

🎧 Hearing Aid Effectiveness

Many residents wear hearing aids that are rendered ineffective by wax build-up. Regular ear care as part of your care home’s health routine ensures aids work as intended.

What We Offer Care Homes

🏠 Bulk Appointment Visits

We can visit your care home and see multiple residents in a single scheduled session — minimising disruption to the home’s routine and making ear care a seamless, regular part of your residents’ healthcare. Bulk visits are priced to reflect the volume of residents seen, and we work with your care team to plan and schedule efficiently.

🔍 Ear & Hearing Screening Days

We offer dedicated screening days where all residents are assessed using the Tympa Health platform — including HD digital otoscopy, ear canal examination, and a 4-frequency hearing check. You’ll receive a clear record of each resident’s ear health status, making it easy to identify who needs treatment and who should be referred for further audiological assessment.

📋 Individual Resident Appointments

For residents with specific ear health concerns — including those with hearing aids, tinnitus, ear pain, or suspected wax build-up — we can arrange individual appointments at any time. We work directly in the resident’s room wherever possible, so they remain comfortable in a familiar environment throughout.

🔄 Regular Scheduled Visits

Ear wax is a recurring issue for many elderly patients. We can set up a regular visit schedule — monthly or quarterly — so your residents’ ear health is consistently monitored and maintained without your care team needing to chase or coordinate appointments each time.

Experience You Can Trust with Vulnerable Residents

Working with elderly, insecure, and dementia patients requires a completely different approach to a standard clinical appointment. There is no rushing, no clinical detachment, and no assumption that the resident will simply comply because a procedure is being carried out.

Helen at Hear Now! has significant personal and professional experience of caring for elderly patients, including those living with dementia, anxiety, and other vulnerabilities. She understands that trust has to be built — sometimes slowly — before any procedure takes place, and is happy to spend time with a resident before beginning an examination.

“Untreated hearing loss in a dementia patient is one of the most common and reversible causes of increased confusion and agitation. Simple ear care can make a profound difference.”

Frequently Asked Questions

This depends on the residents’ needs and how much time each appointment requires. As a guide, we can typically see between 6 and 12 residents in a half-day visit. We’ll discuss your home’s needs and plan a schedule with your care team in advance.

We never proceed with any procedure that a resident does not consent to or is clearly distressed by. In these cases we’ll note our visit, discuss the situation with your care team, and if appropriate return on another day when the resident may be more comfortable. There is no charge for a visit where a resident is unable to proceed.

Yes. The Tympa Health platform stores HD images and hearing assessment results securely in the cloud. We can provide a written summary for each resident which can be added to their care file or shared with their GP or audiologist.

For residents who are able, we recommend using olive oil ear drops for a few days before the visit to soften any wax — this can make the procedure quicker and more comfortable. However, we understand this isn’t always practical in a care home setting and we can work effectively without preparation in most cases.

Absolutely — in fact residents with hearing aids are among those most likely to benefit. Wax build-up is the most common reason hearing aids stop working effectively. Clearing the wax often restores full hearing aid function without the need for expensive servicing or replacement.

Simply contact us by phone, WhatsApp or email and we’ll discuss your home’s needs and arrange a suitable date. We’re flexible about timing and can accommodate early morning visits to fit around your care routines.
